Good question right!?! So let's dive right in...

Skin Needling, athough it sounds invasive, is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that uses microscopic needles (I use Dermapen 4 which has 16 needles to be exact) to penetrate the skin within the epidermis (top layer of skin) and dermis (middle layer of the skin). These micro-channels initiate the wound healing response and inflammation in the body to allow it to regrow and repair the skin. This results in stimulation of the production of collagen and elastin for younger, fresher and newer skin.

The goal of Skin Needling is to optimize skin cell function through increased cell-to-cell communication and to enhance the absorption of topical nutrients via the tiny micro-channels made by the needles. For this reason it is also important to ensure you are using advanced and healthy skincare.

Skin Needling can immensly improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, scarring (particularly acne scarring), pigmentation, sun damage, thin skin and enlarged pores. It can even be used to increase hair growth in balding!

It's not pain-free but it is definitely tolerable and there are different speeds and depths (thank you new technology) that can be adjusted to suit the different areas of the face and also to suit your tolerance and skin's response.

Skin Needling is not a one treatment miracle cure (unfortunately there is no such thing) and multiple treatments are needed to get your desired results. How many treatments you need will depend entirely on what is being treated, the skincare you are using at home and how well your skin responds.

What does the treatment involve?

It is a one hour facial treatment utilising the upmost advanced technology in Skin Needling, Dermapen 4 and DP Dermaceuticals. The treatment also includes a healing, hydrating and cooling peptide sheet mask following the needling. As part of the 1 hour treatment we will also have a short consultation to discuss your skin health and desired outcomes. Internal health also plays a massive role in the health of your skin and this will also be discussed during your consultation to ensure you get the best results. Skin Needling works very well when paired with a full nutrition consult to address your internal health and nutrition status and help maximise your skin results.

What to expect after your treatment?

As the skin goes through it's healing stages you will experience changes in your skin over the days following your treatment.

During and immediately following the treatment you should experience some redness and spot bleeding however this will calm right down once the peptide sheet mask is applied. Below is a timeline of what you might experience:

First 24 hours - Some redness (more like a flushed look) and possible minor swelling.

1-2 days - very minor if any redness, minor itching and a dry/tight sensation.

2-3 days - Potentially minor skin flaking. Redness, swelling and itching should be completely reduced.

3-4 days - Potential slight dryness

4-5 days - full recovery with normalised skin function.

In these 4-5 days following your treatment you will need to use specific skincare products and be asked to stop the use of all exfoliants or products including AHA's & BHA's. After 5 days you can resume your normal skincare routine. Results are improved with an in-clinic enzyme peel facial at about 10-14 days following your skin needling treatment. You will also be provided with aftercare instructions following your treatment.

I hope this has given you a better understanding of Skin Needling but please feel free to reach out for a free 15 minute private phone discussion to find out if this treatment is right for you.

**Please note there are some indications, medications or health conditions that may prevent treatment from going ahead.
